Inviting partners to share expertise on innovations in humanitarian settings

On the picture above you see a community worker using a mobile phone as a tool to inform a mother on how to monitor her child’s health progress and immunization. This innovation has revolutionized effective procedures, both for community workers and mothers, making it interesting with additional information including videos and pictures.

The need for humanitarian innovation
In the last ten years the need for humanitarian assistance has grown and become more complex. The amount of funding requested through inter-agency appeals has tripled, and the number of people targeted was four times as high in 2016 compared to 2006. Innovation is needed to meet the changing needs, increase efficiency and effectively use available resources.

CARE Nederland, being a partner of the Dutch Coalition for Humanitarian Innovation (DCHI), finds it important to innovate in her humanitarian work to achieve higher impact at lower costs. In order to achieve this, collaboration with external partners, such as expert organisations, governments, private sector companies and knowledge institutes, is key.

Call for collaboration: are you in for a challenge?
Within the Dutch Relief Alliance (DRA) – a coalition of 16 Dutch aid and humanitarian organisations – an Innovation Fund has been set up to encourage innovations in humanitarian settings initiated by the DRA partners. DRA partners, including CARE Nederland have defined concrete challenges that they would like to solve related to the theme of ‘Safety and Protection’. We have submitted challenges related to the following countries: Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, South Sudan and Pakistan. Do you or your company has the expertise to contribute to one of the following challenges? Please find more information in the PDF documents below:
