Manager Humanitarian Action (38 hours)

CARE Nederland is looking for a new Manager Humanitarian Action to guide a passionate team in providing humanitarian support to the hardest hit communities across the globe. What will you be doing?

The Manager Humanitarian Action (HA) is a member of CARE Nederland’s Leadership Team and reports to the Executive Director. The Manager HA is responsible for the acquisition of donor funding for CARE Nederland’s humanitarian programming, as well as for overseeing the quality of implementation of, and reporting on, donor-funded HA projects through CARE Country Offices worldwide. The Manager HA provides hierarchical steering to the CARE Nederland team of HA Project Managers, while also working alongside the Project Managers on project design and oversight of implementation and contract management if and when opportune.

They will work in close collaboration with the managers for Sustainable Development, Finance, Fundraising and Advocacy in order to guarantee optimal integration of different disciplines in function of impact, influencing and income generation. They will also enhance knowledge sharing and learning across the organisation, with support from CARE Nederland’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) coordinator.

As member of the Leadership Team, the Manager HA is part of the Fundraising Committee (for approval of new projects) and the Programme Oversight Committee (for coordination re. implementation with Sustainable Development, Advocacy and MEAL).

Result areas:

  • Manages and leads the HA team, which will include planning projects, performance reviews, coaching and support;
  • Analyses relevant developments in the humanitarian sector and provides input for CARE Nederland’s strategic direction;
  • Translates strategy into operational planning, and ensures quality of implementation as well as evaluation of results – proposing adjustments to planning where relevant;
  • Oversees the procurement of donor funding for the humanitarian programme, ensuring and   monitoring a pipeline of projects from diverse funding sources;
  • Represents CARE Nederland in our relations with donors, peers and partner organisations.

What do you bring to the table?

  • Academic work and thinking level; MA in relevant subject required;
  • At least 10 years of experience in development and/or humanitarian programming, 5 years of which including management responsibilities, team coordination, coaching;
  • Proficiency in English;
  • Knowledge of Dutch and French would be an asset;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills.
